How do find your inspiration for your handmade jewelry, writing your blog or just plain living? Every one finds inspiration in their own place. We look to nature and the beauty that surrounds us every single day for our handmade jewelry designs. The colors of the sea, the greens of the leaves blowing in the wind, everything around us provides us with inspiration. We have even made earring designs inspired by buildings and architecture.  There is no lack of inspiration if you just look around with an open mind. We can all be looking at the same scene but what makes an artist is that we will all see different things and create unique pieces of handcrafted artisan jewelry.  I believe this is the most exciting part of the handmade jewelry process.  An open mind and observation are the key not only to making jewelry but also living life to its fullest whatever you do for a living.

But what do you do when your pool of creativity seems to have dried up? Creativity is not something that can be pushed or you just get the same old things and it feels like your going in the same circle. It’s time to take a break from your every day life; go for a walk, visit somewhere new, get away from things that cause you stress and do something fun.  You’ll be refreshed, inspired and feel a new enthusium for your work. Who knows, you might even have missed it!

It is a proven fact that Handmade Jewelry displays will increase retail sales. Time and time again we have seen that retailers who take advantage of our handmade jewelry display packages dramatically increase their sales and their reorder rate also increases.

One of the most important factors for sale increases in the 300 – 400 % range has to be offering your customers a wider variety of choices. Most handmade jewelry displays are designed to hold handmade earrings, unique bracelets, handcrafted necklaces, rings, lockets, etc. This increases the number of multiple piece sales, “Aunt June loves butterfly jewelry, let’s get these butterfly earrings and the matching bracelet.” When placing your orders at the upcoming Wholesale Jewelry and gift shows always keep in mind that most customers who like a product will also be likely to buy matching sets.

Most handmade jewelry wholesalers offer retail display packages that are free of charge or the cost of the display is offset with free merchandise. Generally the buyer is responsible for the shipping charges of the display. Jewelry wholesalers will work with the retail store buyers to find the most suitable display for their stores taking into consideration space restrictions of the store itself. Large free-standing displays work well for bigger stores increasing the variety of designs, styles and products that you can make available to your customers. Smaller stores with limited space tend to opt for the countertop displays.

Other points to consider when choosing a handmade jewelry display is your stores clientelle as well as your stores traffic patterns:

A) If your clientelle is composed largely of repeat local customers offering a larger selection will increase your sales but the countertop display is probably your best option. Always have a catalogue close by in case they would to special order their favorite design if out of stock. You may want to reorder often so the products are always new and fresh to returning customers.

B) If you are located in a tourist area where you have large numbers of people arriving at the same time, like bus tours, you need to have a good variety as well as quantity on the display. The larger free standing displays will make sure you don’t run out of the best selling designs and more people can view the product at the same time.

C) Keep in mind your stores’ security record, these are tough times and some stores are more vunerable than others. In these cases, when ever possible place handmade jewelry displays in close proximity to the cashier where customers are in plain view. Having sales staff in those areas to help customers will also provide additional security.

D) Especially with handmade jewelry your customers always appreciate extra information so be knowledgable on each product line you carry. Some wholesale jewelry suppliers will go that extra mile and supply literature regarding their products, cards or flyers, explaining how they make their unique handcrafted jewelry. This gives each purchase a personal touch and a connection with the artisans who have made the jewelry.

Handmade Jewelry displays are well worth the investment and your store will benefit from greatly increased sales. Your customers will appreciate the wider selection of designs and styles to fit everyones tastes and budget. In these days of financial crisis it is important to offer your customers unique products of lasting quality and value.

Silver jewelry is simple but beautiful and has been worn for many years by all different types of people. Its low cost is one feature that makes it so attractive to jewelry buyers. Silver jewelry cost considerably less than gold jewelry and the price difference between white gold and silver is even larger. Many of those individuals who enjoy white gold also enjoy silver and for those on a budget this is often the alternative choice in jewelry.
You can expect the price difference between gold jewelry and silver jewelry to be quite drastic. Often you will pay as much as four to five times less for silver jewelry than you would gold jewelry. It should also be pointed out that silver jewelry is easier to wear casually as well.
Silver can go beautifully with the fanciest of dresses or gowns or it can be work with jeans or a simple sun dress. While gold can also be worn either way silver seems to look less tacky when worn casually than gold does.
Silver also has a tendency to enhance almost any skin tone. Gold tends to drowned own the color of skin and make it appear light where as silver makes the skin appear darker and healthier.
Another great thing about silver is that since it is used for jewelry making in so many different cultures you can find pieces in a variety of different styles. This makes for great selection whether your buying the jewelry piece for yourself or for someone else.
Silver jewelry is also very durable and tough although not quite as strong as stainless steal it isn’t very far off. It’s durability comes from the addition of copper. There isn’t much copper added to the mixture but just enough to make the jewelry stronger. Silver without this additional material would be too soft to make jewelry from and the pieces would not last as long as they do with the addition of the copper.
The only slight downfall to purchasing silver jewelry rather than gold or white gold jewelry is that it requires a bit more care in order to keep it looking its best. This is because silver has a tendency after a long time to darken and tarnish. Although some jewelry pieces surprisingly are enhanced by this evidence of aging others may not be.
By keeping silver jewelry polished and cleaned you may be able to prevent this from happening. In the event, though, that your silver jewelry does become tarnished you can follow a simple process to make homemade silver tarnish remover or you can also purchase premade tarnish remover such as Tarn-X. Either way works well but homemade tarnish removers don’t contain any harsh chemicals that may make your skin break out.
The benefits of buying silver jewelry over gold go above and beyond the one downfall. That’s why silver has been being enjoyed for so many years and will continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Sometimes the road to success leads to wonderful places!  Sometimes the road is bumpy and sometimes filled with potholes!  We have taken the road less traveled…there are times we know why it’s less traveled. We hope you enjoy our stories about our Handmade Jewelry Business!

You’ve got great ideas; unique products and a lot of energy…So off you go to the local craft shows! Everyone loves your handmade jewelry so you come up with more great ideas, fun and fashionable works of art! You move on to juried craft shows in your area and then bigger shows, bigger sales.  Life is great! You are doing something you love and everyone loves your work!

Sales are coming in and you can hardly keep up with your orders. You have to find ways to save time…you never have enough time before the next show.  Eureka, you’ve found the answer and now it’s easier to keep up with orders, sales and traveling to all the best shows. But you’re starting to get tired of running here and there, setting up, tearing down… and the sun… and the rain…and the wind…

Below are some pointers that we learned the hard way along the way in our Handmade Jewelry Business.  Some of the advice might seem simple but most mistakes are simple as well!

Outdoor craft shows and festivals are wonderful and fun to do and a great opportunity to showcase your handcrafted artisan jewelry, when the weather is nice that is.  Unfortunately the weather doesn’t always co-operate with the show schedule.  Always remember the Boy Scout motto: BE PREPARED!  These are just a few suggestions to keep everything going well:

1.  Always have materials available to weigh down your canopy.  We always had weights like paint cans filled with concrete, cinder blocks, empty jugs to fill with water for extra protection from the wind lifting your tent to OZ.  Sometimes you will have to hang on as well!  This is especially important if you are in Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Art Festival; the canopy was being lifted right into the air!  What goes up must be held down!

2.  Always carry hammer, nails, wire, small pieces of wood, string, rope and the like.  We liked to make sure all our display boards were securely hammered to the tables so they wouldn’t tip over on a customer’s head when the wind blew.

3.  Make sure to have all extra stock in watertight containers, especially for jewelry that is on cards or can be damaged by water.  If the cards get wet or dirty it can really be a mess.  You will appreciate this more when you are up to your knees in water, mud and sawdust!

4.  Try if possible to put earrings on display boards or frames.  This makes it much easier and quicker to pack up just in case of a storm or tornado.

These are just a few suggestions to those starting out on the craft show circuit.  It may not sound like a lot of fun but I sure miss those “good old days”!  It was a wonderful way to spend the summer and make some money besides!

Next step on the road to success- Wholesale Handmade Jewelry!  Not as many shows and bigger sales.  You focus on your craft and can actually enjoy a long weekend!

Pearl necklaces are a timeless staple every woman should have in her wardrobe. Unlike the puka shell necklace or goth style necklaces, it is the accessory that transcends the ages. This is no more evident than in the seven women who have made pearls apart of their style and grace. These women are the same that women of all ages often look to for classic, simple fashion that never goes out of style. Each makes and carries the pearls in her own unique way, but the look they exude still works today, even some 50 years later.

First Lady Barbara BushAs our first lady, Barbara Bush proudly wore her set of pearl necklaces virtually wherever she went. Who could forget her famous blue suit with the simple pearl necklace accent up top? Whether it was the simple single layered necklace or her triple strand necklace that became her signature, you could find Barbara always with her pearls as First Lady from 1988 to 1992. She showed us chic style can be achieved at any age.First Lady Jackie KennedyJackie Kennedy during the 1950’s and early 60’s introduced America to a new kind of Presidential style that brought a different type of elegance to the White House. Jackie’s personal style always seemed to be put together and very polished. Her style ranged from comfortable day clothes ideal for time with her children, to a simple sheath dress for an afternoon press conference, to imported gowns for Presidential balls. Whichever the event, she could generally be found wearing a classic white pearl necklace to pull the look together. She made pearls an essential part of her outfits and took them from casual wear to chic.

Princess DianaRemember Princess Diana in that stunning black dress by Christina Stambolian that became known as the “Revenge Dress”? Princess Di looked drop dead gorgeous at a time when the world’s eyes were directly upon her. She chose to accessorize that bold dress with a simple pearl choker that easily brought the chic factor up even further. Princess Di’s use of simplistic jewelry like pearls with daring dresses is what helped propel her out of the traditional role of a royal into the fashion world as an icon. Had she chosen to pair her outfits with the bold chunky jewelry of the 80’s and early 90’s, she may not have made the same type of impact on the fashion industry as she did.

Barbara BillingslyYou know Barbara best as Beaver’s mom, June Cleaver from Leave It to Beaver. No matter what Mrs. Cleaver was up to, whether preparing breakfast, vacuuming, or eating dinner, she always had her pearl necklace on. So much was this apart of the character that the necklace is apart of television history. However, few people know that the pearl necklace was actually Barbara Billingsly idea and something she continues to wear to this day!

Audrey HepburnWhen Audrey Hepburn came out in Breakfast at Tiffany’s with that little black dress and dramatic set of pearls, it was an instant moment in fashion history. Her look was so timeless and sophisticated that it still continues to transcend era’s of style. This set was a triple strand of pearls that created a bold addition to the dress. Today, you can find this look continuing to be emulated with women layering long single strand pearl necklaces or other types of necklaces over each other to create the same effect.

Princess GraceGrace Kelly started off as one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actresses’s but then transformed into royalty when she became the Princess of Monaco. As Princess, Grace’s style needed to be impeccable at all times and is something she achieved with what seemed like little effort. She brought her classic American style into a foreign kingdom and captivated the world with her use of clean lined dresses, elegant evening gowns, and simple jewelry. She often adorned herself in simple pearl necklaces that complimented her classic American style.

Sarah Jessica ParkerWhat fashion list is complete without Sarah Jessica Parker? In the Sex and the City movie, Sarah Jessica dawned a long Akoya pearl necklace in a variety of scenes. She showed us that pearls are still very much apart of modern fashion. She accessorized everything from pretty dresses to even underwear with her pearl necklace. And in real life, she has been using pearls as apart of her red carpet accessories showing us true, classic and innovative style.

These seven women clearly show that pearl jewelry is here to stay and that classic, simple style is always in fashion. Investing in a simple pearl necklace that compliments you is something that you can carry with you throughout your lifetime. Look to these women for inspiration and we’re sure you’ll be able to create your own unique style using classic elements with modern trends.

Silver is a popular metal for fashion and fine jewelry today.  Its color and luster allows it to fit in well with a wardrobe of fine jewelry.  At the same time it appears to be less pretentious that bright yellow gold.  So it would come as no surprise if you find yourself searching for that special piece of silver jewelry either for yourself or for someone you love.  Whether you are looking for a single large silver pendant or the entire set of jewelry, the internet is your best place to start.  A simple search will identify a myriad of online stores that specialize in timeless and beautiful silver jewelry.  Many artists and designers who make the jewelry are available to discuss their creations and can even help you choose the best piece of silver jewelry for your taste and occasion.  In many cases, they will even be willing to customize a piece for you.  Customizing silver is a reasonable approach since most silver jewelry is handmade in the first place. The variety of jewelry that you can find online far exceeds any jewelry stone in your neighborhood.  That is not to say that local jewelry shops do not have a place in this business.  The biggest advantage of buying locally is that you can visit the store, physically see and touch the piece you intend to purchase, and have it sized to suit your needs before you leave the store.  This is hard but not impossible to do when you purchase jewelry online.

When buying silver jewelry, you will often hear the term “sterling” or “sterling silver”.  What does the word “sterling” mean?  Once silver is extracted from the ground, it is put through a series of chemical and physical processes to extract the metal.  The extracted metal is put through a purification process to obtain pure silver.  While pure silver is quite lustrous and beautiful, it is too soft to be used in jewelry.  It also tends to tarnish very rapidly when exposed to the atmosphere.  So silver is mixed with other metals to improve its properties.  The primary metal used in this process is copper.  Sterling silver is a form of silver than contains at least ninety two point five percent silver.  The remaining is made up of copper.  Sterling silver is harder and more durable than pure silver.  It is also easier to work with compared to pure silver.  Today, sterling silver is the standard for silver settings in jewelry pieces.

When considering spending money on jewelry, not that many women think about artisan handmade jewelry. Most ladies will probably go to the nearest department store first to browse their jewelry collections. On their way out, they might visit one or two jewelry stores to see what they have to offer.
It is important to understand that there are many types and classes of jewelry that suit every occasion, from seriously formal to relaxed and even extending to simple jewelry that you wear around the house.
The types of jewelry that you can buy at the traditional stores are probably more suited for the non-distinctive occasions and for more relaxed environment settings. Sure, you might find some piece of jewelry that you like, but you cannot really tell whether one, ten, a hundred, or even a thousand other women are wearing exactly the same piece. In today’s world of mass production it is most likely the case that you are buying something that many others are wearing.
If you want a truly unique piece of jewelry, then artisan handmade jewelry is there to rescue you from the mediocrity of replication.
Artisan handmade jewelry goes back in history as early as 7000 BC. During those early years gold and copper started to be shaped to decorate the human form. It is true that artisan handmade jewelry rarely competes on price with machine-made items. However, artisan handmade jewelry is treasured for its uniqueness, diversity and often exceptional exquisiteness.
I can tell that you are a refined lady who wants to express her individuality through unique artisan handmade jewelry, simply from the fact that you have found and are reading this article. You did not find it by searching for the typical, for the replicated, or for the type of jewelry that you see on most women.
When you decide to invest money in a unique piece of artisan handmade jewelry, you know that you are getting a masterpiece that was not only created by a professional, but was also created with exceptional care and with the loving attention to detail that only an experienced artisan can bring to the art of jewelry making.
Of course, you are going to pay a little more for your jewelry that is handmade by an artisan. Nevertheless, you know for certain that you are buying something that is truly unique and refined, just as you are.
Artisan handmade jewelry does not only mimic the value and uniqueness that you place on yourself as a woman, it also serves as an object of admiration and an excellent conversation starter.
